What’s happening to your body?  Many women believe that menopause begins when they are around 50 years old, but early menopause can start as early as a woman’s mid-30’s.  Menopause, the period in a woman’s life when her ovaries stop producing eggs, does not happen overnight, but rather is a process that can last up to 10 years.  These changes and fluctuations in a woman’s body during this period can affect the course of important life decisions, such as having children. Of course, there is no avoiding the inevitable menopause, but having the appropriate knowledge and understanding of what is exactly is processing through your body during this stage in your life  can greatly help you to cope and deal with menopause.

Like we mentioned before, perimenopause can begin as early as a woman’s mid-30s—read our blog on perimenopause here.  While there are the obvious and telling signs of the onsets of menopause (cessation of menstrual cycle, hot flashes), some symptoms are not as clear. For example, often times women attribute symptoms such as depression, restlessness and decreased sex drive to daily stress, but in fact these conditions could be a direct result of menopause.  Menopause may be a lot nearer than you think!

GEM® strongly encourages all women to visit their primary healthcare providers to get routine health check-ups.  Recent scientific advancements have ushered in new options that can help women determine early preventative or treatment paths if going through menopause.  For example, doctors can perform FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), a test that measures the hormone and estrogen levels in a woman’s body.  The results of Follicle Stimulating Hormone tests can help doctors calculate the ratio of a woman’s hormones, and determine whether or not she can still get pregnant or if she is at risk for miscarriage.  To determine whether or not women are going through menopause yet, doctors can now perform a blood test which seeks out four genes prevalent in early menopause.  These tests will especially help woman who are looking to have children at an older age; Knowing and understanding their bodies and the hormonal changes they are going through will assist them in making informed decisions about possible pregnancy.

GEM® creates award-winning, specially formulated, all-natural beverage treatments that help women to alleviate symptoms of menopause and improve the quality of their daily lives.  For more information about GEM Drinks, please visit our website.
