Does Black Cohosh Really Relieve Menopause Symptoms?

Black Cohosh in its natural state

We’ve all been warned about “self-diagnosing” by using the Internet, but let’s face it: we’ve all done it. And when you look up black cohosh, there’s quite a bit of information served up in one simple Google search.

But what do you really need to know? When we were creating the formula for GEM® Keep It Cool™, we tried many different sources before we selected our unique and proprietary blend of ingredients. We chose black cohosh because of the information that has been collected over the years, both from scientific research and from the experiences of homeopathic practitioners, herbalists and women just like you.

Before traditional medicine was readily available, Native Americans and early American settlers used the root of the black cohosh plant to relieve menstrual cramps, menopausal symptoms, fever and nervous disorders. As with many other botanicals used by native peoples before “Western” medicine was developed, the efficacy of black cohosh is still studied and recognized today.

For instance, there were over a dozen studies done in the 1980s and through the 1990s that support the long-term use of black cohosh for the reduction of menopause symptoms. In 1982, a team of German scientists recorded improved physical and psychological menopausal symptoms in over 80% of the 629 women who were given black cohosh for a four-week trial.

In a separate study, 80 menopausal women were given one of the following over a three-month period: black cohosh extract, conjugated estrogens or a placebo. Those taking the black cohosh reported less anxiety and improved menopausal symptoms, plus a reduction in hot flashes, down to one occurrence daily from the usual five.

Given these and other examples, many experts have concluded that black cohosh may be a safe and effective alternative to estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) for women who cannot or will not take it. Black cohosh has also been shown as a very cost-effective way of treating menopause symptoms versus ERT.

Dr. James Duke, famed herbal researcher, supports the herb’s use by saying: “Black cohosh really should be better known in this country, especially with our aging population and the millions of women who are now facing menopause.”

Delicious and ready to drink: Keep It Cool™

The Journal of Medicine also recommends black cohosh for menopause relief, noting its safety record in trials. The Journal goes further, directing doctors to consider black cohosh, genistein and adaptogens (two other Keep It Cool™ ingredients) when addressing menopausal symptoms in their patients.

The problem with many of the clinical studies is that they rarely use the same amount or derivative of black cohosh, making it difficult to know what amount to take on your own. That’s one of the reasons we invented Keep It Cool™—to provide a convenient, ready-to-drink product with the right amount of black cohosh to help relieve menopause symptoms for busy women.

Ready to try it yet? Leave those hot flashes behind and get your quality of life back. Give Keep It Cool™ a try today, risk free.

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with a few pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is excellent blog. An excellent read. I’ll definitely be back.

I truly like the fresh perpective you did on the issue. Truly was not expecting that when I started off studying. Your concepts were easy to comprehend that I wondered why I never looked at it prior to. Glad to know that there’s an individual out there that definitely understands what he’s discussing. Fantastic job
